Be selective and don't play too many hands: A common mistake for beginners is to play too many hands. You should only be looking to play between 20 and 30 per cent of your starting hands. Playing only higher value starting hands will, in the long run, prove beneficial. Use the player stats to keep an eye on your percentages.
Mix up your play (change gears): An experienced player will soon take advantage if you play by set actions/responses or only play certain starting hands. Learn to vary your play and keep your opponents guessing.
The importance of position: Generally speaking, the later your position, the better. The most favourable position is "on the button", which means you are last to act and can observe your opponents' actions before having to make a decision yourself.
Make notes on players: Make use of the "player notes" functionality (left click on player) and store information on how your opponents' play.
Learn to read the board: To understand your chances of winning, you first need to understand your chances of losing. Make sure you are aware of the possible hands that can beat you before making a decision. Being able to read the board will also benefit you when considering a bluff.
